Girard-Perregaux brand was founded by Jean-François Bottot in 1791 in Lochatel, Switzerland. At first, he was engaged in the production of components for watch movements. The brand name combines the surnames of Constant Girard and Marie-François Perregaux, who created Girard & Cie in 1856 and then joined forces in 1906 to create Girard-Perregaux & Cie, establishing the basis for the modern brand.
